There was never a time in my life when I wasn't
writing on anything that was handy, beginning in
the first grade when I wrote on my desk and
had to stay in at recess to wash it off.
In elementary school I religiously kept a
scrapbook of children's stories printed in a local
newspaper, reading them over and over
whenever I got the chance. That's probably
where my love for stories all began. My very
favorite book was Beatrix Potter's "Tales of
Peter Rabbit".
When writing English assignments in high school
my teacher told me my stories were too long.
Not much has changed there, but I have finally
learned that less is more when it comes to
writing good stories.
In the 1980's I produced an award-winning
children's radio series working with fourth
graders called "Kid's Talk"; and I spent several
years reviewing children's books on radio and
for newspapers.
I received my EdD in 1995 from the University
of Massachusetts, Amherst, and taught several
different college level courses, including
children's literature, which brought me a great
deal of satisfaction.
